Training

You commit to joining us at 8:00 a.m. on Saturday mornings from late January through June. You’ll hear a talk about some aspect of training, like the proper clothing, or how to avoid injury, or what to eat. Then you’ll head outside for a run or walk which will take you back to your meeting place.

Then in June, those Saturday ‘talk-and-run-or-walk’ meetings switch to Tuesday or Wednesday evening at 6:30, again out of the Y, and Saturday morning becomes the time for your long training run or walk – with no talk.

Whether it’s January or June, you’ll also want to run or walk two other times during the week so you’re training three days a week in total. You  don’t have to train every day, something we discourage mightily. You  don’t have to come out absolutely every Saturday. But you should try hard to do that. And even if work or family takes you out of town, it’s important to try to keep up with your training. You can always catch the essence of the weekly talk which is posted on our website. You also don’t have to start in February in order to do a marathon in October. Depending on your physical condition, you can start in March, April, May or even June.
