December, 2007
The 2007 JeansMarines year isn’t quite done, but we’ve already had our first rousing potluck recruiting dinner, complete with bargain offers for signing up two at a time.
At this point there are only JeansMarines alums and there are hundreds of you out there. Many have asked: What now? What’s next? How do I stay in shape and involved? How do I give back?
Here are some of the ways you can do that with JeansMarines in the new year.
1. Recruit, recruit, recruit!
You are our best ambassadors. You know what this program can do because you’ve been there yourself. You also know friends, colleagues at work and family members who can benefit the same way you did from this life-changing program.
That’s why we’re sending you the original JeansMarines documentary today, so that you can send it on to an ‘unsuspecting newbie’ or invite a group of prospects in for a screening of the one-hour film by Barbara Barde that got so many of us off the couch and on to the streets.
You can also send or bring those women to either of the two potluck recruiting dinners we’re holding in January. Both take place at our home at 660 Pape, Unit 111, just down from Danforth, starting at 7:00 p.m. The first happens on Monday, January 7 and the second on Monday, January 21. Let us know if you’re bringing or sending someone by e-mailing: jean@jeansmarines.com.
2. Join us next year
Set a new goal for yourself. Reach a new personal best. Join us at the Chicago Marathon or the Marine Corps in Washington. Find your own great race for the Fall. Our alumnae training program will be ready in early January and we’re going to make the groups more compact in the Toronto area offering more one-on-one training and more sharing of the coaching responsibilities.
3. Stay in touch
There are those of you whose goals now are beyond what we can offer. Your search for new challenges extends to duathalons, triathalons and even desert-crossings. Or you and your fellow alums may have set your own goal of a couple of 10Ks a year and a lot of Tim Hortons. Please know that you fly on the wings of our gratitude. We are proud to have been a part of your change and be witness to the evolution of the strength that is so evident as you tear up the trails.
We’ll again be offering our Stay-in-Touch membership in 2008, so you can be inspired first-hand by the likes of Kathrine Switzer, Roberta Bondar and other incredible women. You’ll also receive our bi-weekly e-newsletter called MEDALS, with lots of news about JeansMarines in action.
We also want you to consider volunteering as a mentor or coach or event organizer to help keep the program running and our program costs down. Finally, we’ll be expanding beyond the GTA as we did last year to Georgetown and Stratford. So if you know out-of-towners in Ontario who are keen to help us get started in their community, please let us know.
Truly finally?
The year-end special offer, of course: if you and another alumna or you and a newbie recruit sign up together, the two of you can join the 2008 program for a combined cost of $350 plus GST. This is a $100 total saving on what you would pay if you signed on your own ($225 per person plus GST). This offer is valid from now until January 26th 2008 when next year’s program officially starts. To take advantage of this special offer, contact Tracey Acker at jean@jeansmarines.com and she will send you a registration form.
I wish you all continued health -- you have worked hard for it.
I wish you rest -- you have earned it.
I wish you celebration -- you deserve it for what you have achieved this year.
I look forward to cheering you on -- out there and everywhere in the New Year.
Once a JeansMarine, always a JeansMarine!

Deborah Wood and Associates and the MDRT Canadian Foundation Donate to Kidsfest; JeansMarines’ Charity of Choice
TORONTO [November 24,2006]- Deborah Wood, President of Deborah Wood and Associates, a member of Creative Planning Financial Group, and her associate Nana Brown were pleased to recommend Kidsfest for a grant of $2,200 from the Million Dollar Round Table Canadian Foundation. MDRT is the premier association of financial advisors and the MDRT Canadian Foundation raises funds from its’ membership to be donated to local charities in members’ communities. In 2006, $117,000 was donated by the Canadian foundation to 231 charities across Canada. It was Nana Brown’s attachment to JeansMarines that sparked the donation request for Kidsfest. JeansMarines, the women’s marathon running group, has formed a healthy relationship with Kidsfest through their Running and Reading program. Brian Warren, the Founder and CEO of Kidsfest and two-time Grey Cup Champion, was there with Silvia Ruegger, the current Olympian and Canadian marathon record holder to accept the cheque on behalf of Kidsfest Canada. Silvia is the director of the Kidsfest Running and Reading club which is one of many programs Kidsfest offers to children who live in impoverished communities. Dr. Jean Marmoreo; founder of JeansMarines was also there representing her team members that donate their time running, reading and sharing healthy meals with the children involved in this program. Earlier this year the members of JeansMarines raised $6,000 in two days to provide running shoes for the children who were preparing for their 5K goal. Over 600 children are training towards this year’s race which will be held on June 9th, 2007 at York University. One of the major Sponsors of the run is Scotiabank which is also the founding sponsor of JeansMarines.

JEANSMARINES APPOINTS NEW ADMINISTRATOR
TORONTO [November 2, 2006] – JeansMarines, the women’s marathon running group founded by Toronto physician,\ Dr. Jean Marmoreo, is pleased to announce the appointment of Tracey Acker as its new administrator.
Prior to joining JeansMarines, Tracey was provincial coordinator for Joints-in-Motion, the Arthritis Society’s marathon training program. While there, she was in charge of generating awareness, marketing, recruitment, and internal and external administration.
Tracey also managed a $350,000 fund-raising budget, and organized the Joints-in-Motion participation in races in Canada and abroad. In addition, she volunteered as an organizer for this summer’s 30 km Midsummer Night’s run in the Toronto docklands. Tracey, of course, is a marathoner herself, running the Dublin and Honolulu Marathons. Before joining the world of marathon training, Tracey was a flight attendant for Air Transat and a Flight Centre travel consultant.
Said Jean Marmoreo: “As JeansMarines grows, Tracey will help us manage that expansion process so that women will be able to gain the maximum benefit from the JeansMarines training program.”
Said Tracey Acker: "Passion, personal commitment and team support. JeansMarines is a dynamic group that understands these three elements which gives me great honor to be part of the future program developments."
